“First Light”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “First Light.”

Cold, cold, cold!

This is the first thought as my eyes open to view the dazzling sunshine piercing the sides of my bedroom window shades to begin a new day. I pull the heavy comforter over my head, because it is so cold and I know this feeling is not right.

I live in Southwest Florida where I believe the temperatures should not drop below 55 degrees in the winter. I have friends & family visiting who have escaped the brutal cold and snow of the Northeast. They are in heaven when the local temperature did not rise above 70 degrees.

I know, if my guest were not visiting, I would not leave the confines of my home until the temperature rises above 75 degrees, because in my opinion and thinning blood, anything below 70 degrees and it is too cold to visit the beach, golf, fish, bicycle, and most importantly kayak.

So, as I lay in bed, I dream of a morning into my future when my eyes open to view the sunlight piercing the shades of my bedroom window and the ceiling fan is cooling my room and not Mother-Nature.
