“Sliced Bread”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Sliced Bread.”

Most of us have heard the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” What do you think is actually the best thing since sliced bread?

There are numerous things in this world I consider the best thing next to sliced bread and topping my list are the automobile & computers. In my lifetime, I never experienced traveling by horse, or mule to get to a location, such as school, job, or going to visit a nearby friend.

I can’t imagine or appreciate the time it took to travel anywhere by horse.

I believe the computer, I use to respond to this prompt is better than a slice of bread, as I can order groceries and beverages all from my computer.

I vividly recall my college days 35-years ago, of visiting the library to conduct research, read and collect books for class assignments. I truly appreciate the ability to use my computer to complete all assignments of my current online courses, including this prompt.

My computer is the best damn thing next to slice bread, as I have a library at my finger tips, to check out any book, view periodicals, and conduct boundless amounts of research.

35-years ago, I could not imagine, or conceive of my computer and I’m quite sure my children will never appreciate their computer until they have to go without it.

Heck, I can’t imagine completing my Masters degree with just a box of pencils and many reams of line paper.
