“Retrospective Funny”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Retrospectively Funny.”

Tell us about a situation that was not funny at all while it was happening, but that you now laugh about whenever you remember it.

My neighbor and I were taking a morning walk with our dogs when we witnessed an auto accident between two fairly new 4-door Mercedes-Benz. It was a simple rear end accident with no noticeable damage.

When both drivers exited their cars to look at the damage. Their conversation escalated into an argument and soon the two were physically fighting one another.

Drivers of other vehicles stopped to break up the fight including my neighbor and I. But, before we reached the two driver’s, they exchanged several hefty blows causing blood to dribble from their noses and mouths. We kept the two apart while they continued to curse and yell at each other.

They calmed down when the police arrived along with two ambulances to attended to the driver’s injuries. They were attended to by paramedics, and both declined to go to the hospital for further treatment. Moments later, two cars arrived, and an older male driver from each car ran towards the two women who were fighting.

I recognized both men as ministers of two of the largest churches in the area. I guessed the two women who appeared to be in their fifties were possibly their wives, or at least I hoped so from all of the hugging, kissing and apologizing that took place.

After a few moments of conversation between the couples.  I watched as all four stood holding hands in prayer, and soon both women hugged, embraced and kissed one another. Both men shook hands, hugged, and they all drove away in their cars.

When we started walking back home, my neighbor shook his head and stated aloud. “This could only happen on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning.”

  1. Well told. I had no idea the sluggers were women and then the further surprise that they were ministers’ wives delivered the double whammy. This sounds like a comedy skit, actually! http://judydykstrabrown.com/2015/09/09/that-sinking-feeling/

    1. Why thanks Judy, it is a little bit of both reality and comedy.

  2. I often think reality is much stranger than fiction. You just can not make this stuff up. Thanks for sharing.
