“Hiking and backpacking fears.”

On many occasions, my family and friends have voiced they’re concerned about me backpacking or hiking into the forests and deserts.

They fear for my safety of everything and anything from zombie hikers to lions, tigers, and of course, bears.

I see a trail as natures peaceful serenity revealing the visuals of various trees, flora, ground cover of assorted ferns in a wooded climate zone. The desert reveals wide open spaces with many cacti and thorny ground cover.

I absorbed the tactile sensory experience when my boots crunching the ground with each impacting step along the path with no fear in my heart or mind.

I have no fears as I look towards the sky to see a bird circling above either watching me or stalking its next meal.

I have no fear knowing distant animals are watching me before I hear or see them.

I have no fear listening to the winds wrestle leaves from its branches, settling upon the ground masking the sounds of my footsteps.

I have no fear as I ascend a mountaintop with an approaching thunderstorm drenching me in the rain with lightning all around.

I have no fear, as I have taken precautions in preparations for the possibilities of deadly animal attacks, to inclement weather and everything in between.

More importantly, I post blogs about my adventures to allow family and friends that I am alive. 🙂

  2. Many years back I’ve been bitten by the hiking bug and my fondest memories are experienced in Mother Nature. In fact to see wild animals is a bonus for me and I never had a bad encounter, although I have seen plenty of bears. They are my favorite. I’m glad you are pursuing hair passion. Keep it up and keep sharing.

  3. Great post. I can only take short hikes but still enjoy. (Headed back out next week. Will be in New Mexico starting first on November.)

  4. Yes! I feel like the fears all go away once you get a bit of experience and realize that very little is “out to get you.”
