“The Clothes (May) Make the Man”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “The Clothes (May) Make the Man.”

Mark Twain

Clothes are an important accessory for everyone no matter where you live or what you do. In my case, I have gone through a world of uniforms, beginning with school uniforms, extracurricular activity uniforms, like my Boy Scout, baseball, and football uniforms.

I also had designated uniforms for church, graduations, and special events. But, I have to admit, with my military, and police uniforms, I never stressed about what I was going to wear on a daily basis.

My current uniform is extremely simple, easy to maintain, and I wear it proudly everyday with a smile equal to the days when I dressed in my uniforms from my past.

My current uniforms consist of, sandals, shorts, t-shirt or tank top, cap, and sunglasses. Underwear are optional as explained to me by my beach bum training / certification advisor.

I feel more alive and happy in my current uniform, yet I’ve declined events requiring me to dress in a pair of pants, tie and God for bid, a suit coat.

  1. We didn’t have OFFICIAL uniforms when I was in high school (except for ROTC) but we were required to wear dress slacks and a dress shirt, no jeans or (gasp) golf shirts. It was the 60’s. I couldn’t wait to get to college where no such silly rules applied. Then I couldn’t wait to get out of the police academy and get into that uniform. Then I couldn’t wait to make detective and get into that suit.

Now we wear the same uniform and I’m not in any hurry to move on to the next.

    1. Mike, I share the same feeling, For my stint dressing in a suit daily was a little stressful having to prepare clothing daily. I definitely love my current uniform with a passion. lol!
